On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Pirates wrapped up their road series against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park in Georgia, looking to avoid a sweep after dropping the first two games of the matchup.
Following the series finale, the Pirates are set to return home to PNC Park, where they will begin a new series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.
During the Braves series, Pittsburgh made a roster move by signing right-handed pitcher Yunior Marte to a minor league contract.
According to MLB.com, the deal was finalized on June 6, adding the veteran arm to the organization’s pitching depth.

Marte, who most recently appeared in one game for the Cincinnati Reds this season, became a free agent after clearing waivers and opting not to accept an outright assignment, as reported earlier in the month. The 31-year-old was released shortly before joining the Pirates organization.
The right-hander has spent parts of four MLB seasons, beginning his career with the San Francisco Giants before later pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies, where he logged his longest stint in the majors over two seasons.

Across his career, Marte has posted a 5.94 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 103 relief appearances, according to reports.
Depending on his performance in the minors, Marte could work his way into consideration for a future call-up with Pittsburgh later in the season.

Meanwhile, the Pirates sit at 34-31 in the National League Central, while the Phillies hold a 34-30 record in the NL East, with both clubs continuing their push in the early summer stretch.
