Sudden Replacement: Mets Send Clear Message by Parting Ways With .538 OPS Infielder and Replacing Him With Red Sox Difference-Maker

The New York Mets made a roster move ahead of Tuesday’s matchup with the Cincinnati Reds, designating infielder Vidal Bruján for assignment, according to SNY’s Chelsea Janes.

Boston Red Sox Trade Recently-Acquired Infielder Zack Short to Atlanta Braves

Bruján appeared in only nine games for the Mets, collecting one hit in 13 at-bats. Once regarded as one of baseball’s top prospects during his time with the Tampa Bay Rays organization, he was known for his speed, contact skills, defensive versatility, and ability to play multiple positions.

To fill the roster spot, the Mets are expected to add infielder Zack Short, whom they recently claimed off waivers.

Zack Short's RBI double

Like Bruján, Short has moved between several teams during his c mareer and has spent time with both the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers this season.

Although Short owns a modest .172 career batting average with 15 home runs in 264 games, his defensive versatility at shortstop, second base, and third base has helped him remain a valuable depth option.

Meanwhile, Bruján is likely headed back to waivers after previously clearing them and remaining in the Mets organization before Opening Day.
