The Philadelphia Phillies have added veteran outfielder Tommy Pham on a minor league contract, according to ESPN’s Jorge Castillo.

The deal includes an opt-out clause on July 25, giving the longtime major leaguer a chance to prove he deserves a spot on the big-league roster.

The agreement marks Pham’s third organization in as many months. The 38-year-old originally signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets shortly before Opening Day and briefly joined the major league club in April.

However, he went hitless in 13 at-bats and was designated for assignment before the month ended.

After leaving New York, Pham joined the Baltimore Orioles organization in May.

He spent 16 games at Triple-A before being released, as Baltimore’s crowded outfield situation made a promotion unlikely.

The Orioles have already struggled to find consistent playing time for veteran outfielder Tyler O’Neill, leaving little room for another right-handed corner outfielder.

Philadelphia presents a much different opportunity. With Adolis Garcia sidelined for several months and Johan Rojas out for the remainder of the season, the Phillies have openings in the outfield and could use experienced depth.

Pham will now have roughly a month to impress the organization and potentially earn a return to the major leagues.
