The Texas Rangers could soon give one of their top pitching prospects an opportunity at the major league level as right-hander David Davalillo remains a candidate for a late-season call-up.
The 22-year-old entered the year as one of the organization’s most highly regarded young arms and was even briefly added to the Rangers’ taxi squad earlier this season, though he did not appear in a game.
Despite enduring a difficult campaign in the minors, Texas continues to view Davalillo as an important part of its future pitching plans.
Davalillo has spent time between Triple-A Round Rock and the Arizona Complex League this season while working through adjustments to his mechanics and command.
His numbers have not matched the success he enjoyed in 2025, when he earned the Rangers’ Nolan Ryan Minor League Player of the Year award after posting a 2.44 ERA. Even so, the organization remains encouraged by his talent and long-term potential.
One factor working in Davalillo’s favor is his place on the Rangers’ 40-man roster, which would make a promotion relatively simple if the club needs additional pitching depth.
Texas has already shown a willingness to give young players opportunities this season, recently promoting prospects such as Winston Santos, Cameron Cauley, and Emiliano Teodo.
With the Rangers continuing to evaluate their roster for both the present and the future, Davalillo could find himself back in the major league conversation if he shows improvement during the second half.
A strong stretch in the minors may be enough to earn the young right-hander his long-awaited MLB debut before the end of the 2026 season.
