According to an MLB talent evaluator, newly acquired New York Mets prospect Jefferson Rojas possesses a skill set that draws comparisons to three-time All-Star Ketel Marte, highlighting the excitement surrounding the organization’s newest top prospect.
Following a disappointing 2026 campaign in which the Mets spent much of the season near the bottom of the standings, the front office embraced a full-scale sell-off ahead of Monday’s MLB trade deadline.
Between Thursday and Monday, New York completed seven trades, bringing in 12 prospects as part of its effort to accelerate the rebuilding process.
Among those additions, Rojas has emerged as the crown jewel. Previously ranked as the Chicago Cubs’ No. 2 prospect, the 21-year-old now sits atop the Mets’ prospect rankings on MLB Pipeline.
Capable of playing both shortstop and third base, Rojas is known for his line-drive approach at the plate and projects to develop consistent 20-home run power as he matures physically.
His well-rounded game and ability to contribute across multiple facets make him one of the organization’s most promising young talents.
The Athletic’s Will Sammon reported that a rival MLB talent evaluator described Rojas as “as exciting as any hitting prospect in the game,” praising both his high floor and significant upside.
When asked to identify a current major league comparison, the evaluator pointed to Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte, while noting that Rojas’ tools are slightly below the three-time All-Star’s.
Marte has established himself as one of baseball’s premier offensive infielders, recording multiple 25-home run seasons and earning two Silver Slugger Awards.
While Rojas may not yet possess Marte’s power, evaluators believe his superior contact skills give him the potential to become an impact hitter at the major league level.
