The Mets released Cluff just one week ago, but his time on the open market was brief. The Chicago Cubs have now signed the infielder to a minor-league contract, according to the MLB.com transactions tracker, and assigned him to Triple-A Iowa.

The move gives Chicago additional infield depth within its minor-league system.

Cluff spent the 2026 season with the Syracuse Mets, appearing in 62 games and hitting just .169 with six home runs and five doubles.

Despite being 29 years old, he has yet to make his MLB debut. Originally selected by the Washington Nationals in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft, Cluff has now joined his third major-league organization.

Across 1,777 minor-league at-bats, Cluff owns a .214 batting average with 48 home runs. While his offensive numbers have been modest, the Cubs are evidently willing to take a chance on his experience and provide additional organizational depth.
