Unexpected But Essential: Auburn Suffers Major Blow as Gamecocks Flip Key Tigers Cornerback Commitment

South Carolina continues to push hard for Byrnes cornerback Aidyn Wiggins despite the 2027 prospect remaining committed to Auburn. Wiggins pledged to the Tigers in June, and that commitment has not changed, but the Gamecocks have refused to back away from the recruitment.

The 6-foot-1, 182-pound corner has visited South Carolina multiple times this season, including for the Mississippi State game and again this past Saturday. Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray and defensive coordinator Clayton White have remained in regular contact with Wiggins as they attempt to convince him that Columbia could be the right destination.

Wiggins said the coaches communicate with him nearly every day and have explained how he could fit into South Carolina’s defensive system and potentially make an immediate impact if he decided to flip his commitment.

Wiggins also appears to have developed a strong understanding of what South Carolina could offer him. He praised Gray’s approach to coaching defensive backs, particularly the physical style and freedom given to corners within the scheme. South Carolina has been the only program Wiggins has visited this season, although he currently has no additional visits scheduled.

Despite that level of interest, Wiggins stopped short of saying that a commitment change is imminent, noting that it is difficult to predict where things stand right now. Still, he has maintained consistent communication with the Gamecocks since they offered him in June, and South Carolina clearly remains determined to make the Auburn commitment less secure.

What Auburn is getting in South Carolina CB Aidyn Wiggins

The Gamecocks already have two cornerbacks committed in the 2027 class, but adding Wiggins would give the secondary another highly sought-after piece.

South Carolina is also attempting to build a relationship with defensive tackle Gehrig Felix, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound prospect from Lawrenceville, Georgia. Felix committed to South Alabama in July, but his recruitment has started to attract considerably more attention after a strong rise.

With only a little more than a year of football experience, Felix is considered a late-blooming prospect who has already picked up offers from several programs. During his South Carolina visit Saturday, he spent time with defensive tackles coach Travian Robertson and defensive ends coach Deion Barnes, with both defensive position groups expressing interest in finding a role for him.

Felix said the Gamecocks are interested in him playing either inside or on the edge, creating an intriguing opportunity as he continues to develop.

He remains committed to South Alabama but acknowledged that an offer from an SEC program such as South Carolina would be significant and could potentially change the direction of his recruitment.

Meanwhile, Clemson is keeping an eye on another intriguing 2028 prospect in wide receiver Seven Rashad, a 6-foot-5 target from Buford, Georgia. Rashad visited Clemson for the Tigers’ win over North Carolina after previously catching the coaching staff’s attention at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp.

His impressive size and enormous catch radius make him an appealing target, and receivers coach Tyler Grisham has been working to establish a relationship with him. Clemson has not yet offered Rashad, but the Tigers appear to be positioning themselves for a potential offer as his recruitment develops.

Rashad currently lists USC, Georgia, Tennessee and Miami among his leading schools, while Clemson’s strong game-day atmosphere and continued communication have helped the Tigers make progress. With additional visits to USC, Notre Dame and Miami planned, Clemson will have to continue building momentum if it hopes to become a serious contender for the towering receiver.
