Washington running back Adam Mohammed has reversed course on his earlier decision to enter the transfer portal and will return to the Huskies, positioning himself to take on a leading role in the program’s backfield moving forward.
Mohammed, a 6-foot, 220-pound sophomore from Glendale, Arizona, had previously announced plans to explore transfer options when the portal opened in January. After further discussions with the coaching staff and his family, Mohammed has opted to remain in Seattle, reaffirming his commitment to Washington’s long-term vision.
The decision stabilizes what was expected to be a major transition year at running back for the Huskies. Mohammed had been widely viewed as the successor to veteran tailback Jonah Coleman, who is set to exhaust his eligibility. His return restores Washington’s original succession plan and gives head coach Jedd Fisch a proven, experienced option to build around.
Mohammed’s emergence late in the 2025 season showcased his readiness for an expanded role. When Coleman was sidelined with a knee injury in November, Mohammed stepped in as the lead back and delivered back-to-back 100-yard rushing performances, including a three-touchdown outing against Purdue and a career-high effort at UCLA. He also posted 105 rushing yards against Oregon, even after Coleman returned to the lineup.
Beyond his production as a runner, Mohammed has become a valuable all-around weapon. In 2025, he totaled 523 rushing yards and five touchdowns, added 17 receptions for 138 yards, and served as Washington’s primary kick returner, finishing among the Big Ten’s leaders in return yardage.
Sources close to the program indicated that Mohammed’s role, development trajectory, and trust in the coaching staff were central to his decision to stay. With two years of eligibility remaining, he is now expected to enter the offseason as the frontrunner to lead the Huskies’ rushing attack in 2026.
Mohammed’s return also brings clarity to a young but talented running back room that includes Jordan Washington, Quaid Carr, Julian McMahan, and incoming four-star recruit Brian Bonner. His experience and versatility provide continuity and leadership as Washington prepares for a challenging Big Ten schedule.
After briefly weighing his options, Mohammed’s recommitment represents a major win for Washington, reinforcing stability at one of the most important positions on the roster and keeping a rising star in place to anchor the offense in the seasons ahead.
