MAJOR BOOST:North Texas wide receiver Landon Sides is headed to East Carolina, bolstering the Pirates’ offense with a proven playmaker in the passing game.

Two North Texas offensive players are set to swap green and white for purple and gold, as wide receiver Landon Sides joins East Carolina University.

Sides follows fellow Mean Green standout Ashton Gray, a running back who committed to the Pirates earlier this week. Both players are reuniting with ECU’s new offensive coordinator Jordan Davis, making the move to Greenville as head coach Blake Harrell reshapes the Pirates’ attack. Each is expected to contend for playing time straight away.

A Denton native and former Guyer High School standout, Sides spent four seasons at North Texas, appearing in 35 games and making 16 starts. He recorded 88 receptions for 1,092 yards and six touchdowns, while also contributing as a punt returner. The 5ft 11in, 190lb receiver has one year of eligibility remaining.

Known for his speed, Sides posted 100-metre times as low as 10.54 seconds in high school and topped 1,300 receiving yards in his senior year. After beginning his college career primarily in the slot, he moved outside in 2025 and enjoyed his most productive season, finishing with 34 catches for 449 yards. He averaged more than 13 yards per reception and delivered his standout performance with 114 receiving yards against Charlotte.

Sides’ arrival marks ECU’s second wide receiver addition from the transfer portal this cycle, following Ja’Keith Hamilton from Furman. He joins a receiving group that includes returning starter Brock Spalding, giving the Pirates added flexibility across the formation as they continue to strengthen the position group.
