**The grind goes pro: South Carolina Gamecocks land major 4-star transfer commitment as Lamont Paris reinforces the roster and answers offseason doubts with a statement portal win**

South Carolina Gamecocks men’s basketball head coach Lamont Paris is looking to rebuild confidence in the program after a 13–19 season in Columbia, and he took a major step forward Friday by landing a key transfer guard.

The Gamecocks secured the No. 16 overall point guard in the transfer portal, Kory Mincy, a 6-foot-2 junior from East Point, Georgia, who played last season at George Mason and is rated a four-star transfer prospect.

Mincy was George Mason’s leading scorer in the 2025–26 season, averaging 14.3 points per game while also contributing 3.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest. He helped guide the Patriots to a 23–10 record, earning Second-Team All-Atlantic 10 honors before entering the transfer portal earlier this week.

One of his standout performances came in a November win over Winthrop, when he dropped a season-high 29 points on 56% shooting, one of six 20-plus point games during the year.

Before his time at George Mason, Mincy spent two seasons at Presbyterian, where he averaged 15 points per game as the team’s second-leading scorer in 2024–25. As a freshman in 2023–24, he earned Big South All-Freshman honors, appearing in 33 games with 11 starts and averaging six points per game.

Ranked No. 68 overall in this year’s transfer portal by 247Sports, Mincy developed from a lightly recruited high school player at Tri-Cities High School in Atlanta into one of the more productive guards available in the portal.

His arrival is a major boost for South Carolina, which has seen six players enter the transfer portal in the past week.
