Maxim Logue’s original offseason move didn’t unfold as planned for either him or the UNC basketball program, but the former Tar Heel pledge has now secured a new destination.
Logue has committed to play under Penny Hardaway at the University of Memphis, marking his third college stop after previous stints at Oregon State and Florida Atlantic.

Just over a week after initially committing to North Carolina, it was ultimately confirmed that he would not be joining the program. Academic eligibility issues reportedly prevented his enrollment, bringing an end to the potential partnership with the Tar Heels.

Logue had been expected to contribute in UNC’s frontcourt rotation thanks to his size, athleticism, and strong rebounding ability—especially on the offensive glass—making him an appealing option for head coach Michael Malone and his staff.

Now at Memphis, he is expected to provide rim protection and interior presence for Penny Hardaway’s squad. While his departure is a setback for UNC, the program has already shifted focus to other frontcourt transfer targets.
Logue would have likely competed for a backup big man role alongside incoming five-star recruit Sayon Keita, but North Carolina is now exploring other options to strengthen its depth in the paint moving forward.
