The Chicago White Sox placed center fielder Everson Pereira on the seven-day concussion injured list Thursday after he slammed into the left-center field wall during Wednesday’s game at Yankee Stadium.
Pereira suffered the injury while making a highlight-reel catch on a fly ball hit by Ben Rice. He leaped near the 399-foot marker, secured the out, but struck his face against the fence and remained on the ground for several minutes before exiting the game and entering concussion protocol.
White Sox manager Will Venable said Pereira was feeling better the next day despite still dealing with soreness from the collision.
The 25-year-old had only recently returned from a six-week absence caused by a pectoral strain. In 21 games this season, he is batting .232 with three home runs and seven RBIs.

To fill the roster spot, Chicago recalled Junior Perez from Triple-A Charlotte. Perez, who was acquired from the Athletics in May, entered Thursday hitting .230 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 20 games at Triple-A and was inserted into the starting lineup in left field.
