Veteran right-hander Nabil Crismatt has become a free agent after being released by the Texas Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate in Round Rock.
Crismatt had spent the season on the injured list following elbow surgery during spring training, making it unlikely that he will receive anything more than a minor-league rehabilitation opportunity until he proves he is healthy.
The 30-year-old joined the Rangers on a minor league contract last December after spending the 2025 season between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Philadelphia Phillies organizations.
Across 20 Triple-A starts, he posted a solid 3.96 ERA over 102.1 innings while continuing to demonstrate excellent command.
He also appeared in eight games for Arizona at the Major League level, recording a 3.71 ERA while limiting walks effectively.
Over his MLB career, Crismatt has compiled a 3.71 ERA across 211 innings, primarily working as a reliever.
His most successful stretch came with the San Diego Padres from 2021 through 2022, when he emerged as a dependable bullpen arm thanks to his ability to throw strikes and generate ground balls at an above-average rate.
Before suffering his elbow injury, Crismatt was viewed as a contender for a spot in the Rangers’ starting rotation.
The exact nature of his UCL procedure has not been disclosed, leaving uncertainty regarding his recovery timeline.
If he underwent an internal brace procedure, he could be ready by next spring, while a full Tommy John surgery would likely delay his return until sometime during the 2027 season.
Despite the setback, Crismatt’s track record of producing quality innings at both the Major League and Triple-A levels should attract interest from teams seeking low-risk pitching depth once he progresses further in his rehabilitation.
