With the MLB trade deadline only two days away, trade chatter is intensifying across the league, and the Philadelphia Phillies are expected to be one of the busiest teams.
The club is still searching for a right-handed-hitting outfielder, additional bullpen help, and another starting pitcher, and a new report suggests the Phillies have expressed interest in Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Alex Call.
According to The Athletic‘s Katie Woo and Fabian Ardaya, both the Phillies and the Texas Rangers are monitoring Call’s availability.
While he wouldn’t be considered a blockbuster acquisition, Call could provide valuable outfield depth and help balance Philadelphia’s roster, especially against left-handed pitching.
Call has appeared in a limited role with the Dodgers this season, hitting .246 with a .355 on-base percentage and a .314 slugging percentage.
Although his overall career numbers are modest, his greatest strength is his success against left-handed pitchers. This season, he’s batting .326 against southpaws, and since 2023 he has maintained a .278 average with an .790 OPS in those matchups.
He’s earning $1.6 million this year and remains under team control through the 2029 season, making him an affordable long-term option.
The 31-year-old joined the Dodgers at last year’s trade deadline after spending time with the Guardians and Nationals.
Since arriving in Los Angeles, he has continued to serve as a versatile reserve outfielder capable of filling multiple roles.
Across parts of five major league seasons, Call owns a .243 career batting average with 22 home runs, 44 doubles, and a league-average 100 OPS+, making him an intriguing trade target for teams looking to strengthen their outfield depth without making a major splash.
