Another Rangers Key Man Is Finally Back — Rangers Make Huge Move, Activate Key Player After Season-Ending Injury

The Texas Rangers have activated left-handed pitcher Cody Bradford from the injured list, marking his first return to the majors since undergoing internal brace surgery on his left elbow more than a year ago.

To make room, Texas placed fellow left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the paternity list.

Bradford is set to take the mound Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants, giving the Rangers another experienced arm for their pitching staff.

Bradford, 28, has not appeared in a major league game since Sept. 25, 2024, making Wednesday’s start an important milestone in his comeback.

Since making his MLB debut in 2023, he has compiled a 10-6 record with a 4.28 ERA across 34 appearances, including 21 starts. His return could provide the Rangers with additional rotation depth as they navigate the second half of the season.

Gore, meanwhile, is temporarily stepping away from the team after being placed on the paternity list. The 27-year-old has made 24 starts for Texas this season, posting a 6-9 record and a 4.55 ERA during his first campaign with the Rangers.

His absence creates a short-term opening in the pitching staff, but the club expects him to return once his time on the paternity list concludes.

The Rangers acquired Gore after he established himself as a reliable major league starter, and he has now made 129 appearances, including 126 starts, over five MLB seasons.

He owns a career record of 32-50 with a 4.26 ERA while pitching for the San Diego Padres, Washington Nationals and Rangers.

Gore also earned an All-Star selection with Washington last season, while Bradford’s return gives Texas another intriguing option as the club looks to strengthen its pitching depth.
