East Carolina could be facing another change at wide receiver after Ja’Keith Hamilton was listed as questionable with an undisclosed injury ahead of Saturday’s matchup against Appalachian State.
The latest injury report has raised uncertainty about Hamilton’s availability, adding another concern to an ECU receiving corps already dealing with multiple injury questions.
The biggest issue for the Pirates is the lack of information surrounding Hamilton’s injury. ECU has not revealed what part of his body is affected, how serious the problem may be or whether it could keep him sidelined beyond the upcoming game.
Being listed as questionable means the door remains open for Hamilton to play, but his final status could depend on how he responds during preparation and whether the coaching and medical staffs believe he is ready to compete.
Hamilton is also not the only East Carolina receiver appearing on the injury report. Brock Spalding and Landon Sides have dealt with injury concerns as well, creating additional uncertainty at a position where chemistry and continuity are especially important.
If Hamilton cannot suit up, the Pirates may have to redistribute his snaps and targets while asking other receivers to take on larger roles against Appalachian State.
The situation is particularly important because ECU entered the 2026 season with a significantly reworked offense.
The Pirates lost several key contributors from last year and added new pieces through the transfer portal, including Sides, who arrived from North Texas after catching 34 passes for 449 yards and a touchdown in 2025.
With veteran transfer quarterback Mitch Griffis now leading the offense, losing another receiver could complicate the unit’s development.
Still, there is no confirmed indication that Hamilton is facing a long-term or season-ending absence, meaning his status should be viewed as a game-time situation until ECU provides further information.
