Breaking: Pirates Announce the Addition of Top JUCO Cornerback

East Carolina Men’s Basketball has officially announced the signing of point guard Corey Caulker on Wednesday afternoon.

Last season, Caulker averaged 13.4 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game at Eastern Florida State, earning All-FCSAA Team honors. He played a key role in helping the Titans achieve a 23-7 record and reach the quarterfinals of the FCSAA Men’s Basketball Championship. Caulker also posted shooting percentages of 35.6% from three-point range and 76.8% from the free-throw line, along with a 2.4 assist-to-turnover ratio.

“Corey has all the qualities of a winner,” said head coach Michael Schwartz. “He’s an excellent student and a great teammate. He comes from one of the top junior colleges in the country, Eastern Florida, where he received outstanding coaching from Coach Thomas Gray.”

A native of Sterling, Va., Caulker scored in double figures in 20 of his 28 games with Eastern Florida State, including a season-high 28 points, with six made three-pointers, in his final game of the season.

“As a point guard who can dribble, pass, and shoot, Corey’s speed and playmaking will make an immediate impact on our team,” Schwartz noted. “He’s always played with a chip on his shoulder, and that mindset will resonate well with Pirate Nation.”

Before his time at Eastern Florida State, Caulker played his freshman season at Northern Virginia Community College, where he averaged 23.8 points and 4.5 assists per game in 23 appearances.
