The Philadelphia Phillies had Monday off after wrapping up a home series against the Colorado Rockies, where they won two of three games.
Their road trip resumes Tuesday night with a matchup against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Before heading to Boston, Philadelphia announced the release of veteran outfielder Oscar Mercado from the organization.
Mercado had been playing on a minor league contract with Triple-A Lehigh Valley but struggled offensively, batting .141 with one homer, six RBIs, nine runs scored, and three stolen bases across 24 games.

The 31-year-old last appeared in the majors during the 2023 season. A former second-round draft pick in 2013, Mercado spent much of his career with the Cleveland Guardians before later stints with the Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals.
Over five MLB seasons, he posted a .237 batting average with 26 home runs, 100 RBIs, and 29 stolen bases in 298 career games.

Despite his recent struggles, Mercado could still draw interest from teams looking for outfield depth on another minor league deal because of his speed and past major league experience.
Meanwhile, the Phillies enter their upcoming series against Boston sitting second in the NL East at 19-22.
The club has won seven of its last ten games and will continue its road trip with a weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates in Pittsburgh.
