The New York Mets’ 2026 season has been defined by frustration and injuries, with Francisco Lindor’s calf issue standing out as one of the team’s biggest setbacks. While speculation continues about his return timeline, manager Carlos Mendoza recently provided an encouraging update on the star shortstop’s recovery progress.
Ahead of Thursday’s game against the Detroit Tigers, Mendoza said Lindor is “showing signs of healing” and described his recovery as a “positive sign.” He explained that Lindor has now moved into the strengthening phase of rehab, focusing on weight room work before beginning a running progression, while emphasizing the importance of letting the injury fully heal.
Lindor last appeared for the Mets on April 22 against the Minnesota Twins and has struggled offensively this season, posting a .226 batting average with two home runs and five RBIs before landing on the injured list. His absence has been a significant blow to New York’s lineup as the team tries to stay competitive despite ongoing roster setbacks.

When asked whether Lindor would require additional imaging on the calf injury, Mendoza indicated that further scans did not appear to be necessary at this stage.
Instead, the Mets are focused on gradual rehabilitation and monitoring his strength-building process as he works his way back.
However, a clear return date remains uncertain. Reports suggest the Mets are privately expecting Lindor to remain sidelined into June, and Mendoza himself admitted there is still no official timetable for his baseball activities to resume. For now, the team continues to wait patiently for one of its key stars to return to action.
