The Los Angeles Dodgers have continued reshaping their catching depth after injuries and roster changes created uncertainty behind the plate.
The defending World Series champions have now turned to a familiar face from one of their National League rivals, bringing in longtime Atlanta Braves catcher Chadwick Tromp.
Tromp’s latest chapter with Atlanta ended earlier this season, and he has now landed with the Dodgers on a minor league contract.
Los Angeles assigned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he is expected to provide experienced catching depth as the organization navigates several issues at the position.
The move represents a significant change for Tromp, who spent five seasons moving in and out of the Braves organization.
Atlanta ultimately settled on Drake Baldwin and Sean Murphy as its primary catching combination, leaving Tromp to find another opportunity.
He also spent time with the Baltimore Orioles, repeatedly moving between Baltimore and Atlanta on minor league deals dating back to 2021.
While Tromp has not produced much offensively at either the MLB or Triple-A level, his defensive reliability and experience have made him valuable to previous organizations.
His familiarity with the demands of a major league clubhouse also appears to have helped him earn another opportunity, this time with the reigning champions.
For the Dodgers, Tromp arrives at a particularly important moment. Will Smith remains sidelined while dealing with a neck injury, while backup Dalton Rushing is also unavailable because of an elbow issue.
Tromp appears to replace Chuckie Robinson, who was released by Oklahoma City, and will join Eliezer Alfonzo as additional depth behind Hunter Feduccia and Ben Rortvedt.
