The injury happened in the bottom of the sixth inning after Taylor hit a ground ball and started toward first base, only to immediately pull up in pain and limp out of the batter’s box without completing his run.
He slowly made his way back to the dugout without touching the bag, clearly struggling, and appeared to be in significant discomfort.
The 32-year-old then headed straight into the Mets’ dugout with head athletic trainer Joe Golia and did not return to the game. If he ends up on the injured list, it would further deepen an already growing list of Mets injuries.
Manager Carlos Mendoza also provided updates Monday on other key players currently sidelined, underscoring just how stretched the roster has become.
Taylor, in his third season with New York, entered the year as the team’s fourth outfielder but has been forced into regular center field duty due to injuries to Luis Robert Jr., who has been out since April, and a recent illness sidelining Juan Soto.
Offensively, Taylor has struggled, batting .186/.210/.320 with three home runs, 14 RBIs, and a .530 OPS across 43 games this season.
