Unfortunate Exit: Phillies Cut Ties With Another Key Player — So Unfortunate as Underlying Metrics Suggest Much Better Performance Beneath the Surface

The Philadelphia Phillies have released veteran right-hander Bryse Wilson, according to the MiLB.com transaction log, ending his stint with their Triple-A affiliate in Lehigh Valley where he had been working as a starter.

Wilson, 28, joined the organization on a minor league deal in December and made 10 appearances—nine starts—for the IronPigs in 2026. Despite posting a 7.44 ERA, his underlying numbers painted a more balanced picture, as he recorded solid strikeout (22.1%), walk (8.1%), and ground-ball (52.7%) rates.

A high .393 BABIP largely contributed to his inflated ERA, even though opposing hitters produced relatively modest contact quality. Advanced metrics such as xFIP (4.13) and FIP (4.30) suggest his performance was closer to league average than his surface stats indicate.

Wilson has spent parts of eight seasons in the majors, finding his most consistent success during a 2023–24 stretch with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he posted a 3.42 ERA over 181 1/3 innings with respectable strikeout and walk rates.

Outside of that peak, however, he has struggled across stops with the Braves, Pirates, White Sox, and others, carrying a 5.73 ERA overall in those seasons. Known for his versatility as a starter, reliever, and swingman, Wilson remains fully stretched out and could attract interest as experienced pitching depth for another organization.
