Shockwaves In MLB: Mets Unleash Massive Roster Shakeup After Another Devastating Injury Blow as Emergency Call-Ups, Key Returns, and Desperate Lineup Changes Reveal Growing Crisis in New York

The struggling Mets shuffled their roster ahead of Tuesday’s matchup against the Reds at Citi Field, activating A.J. Minter and Jared Young from the injured list while placing Tyrone Taylor on the 10-day IL with a right hip flexor strain.

The club also sent Nick Morabito and Jonathan Pintaro down to Triple-A Syracuse, called up infielder Eric Wagaman, and plans to make another roster move before first pitch.

Minter, who signed a two-year, $22 million deal before the 2025 season, returns after undergoing season-ending lat surgery in May.

The veteran left-hander impressed before the injury, posting a dominant 1.64 ERA in 13 appearances, and completed rehab stops across multiple minor league levels before tossing a scoreless inning for Syracuse on Sunday.

His return gives the Mets another dependable lefty alongside Brooks Raley in the bullpen.

Pintaro became the casualty of Minter’s activation despite a strong showing during his brief stint in the majors, where he surrendered only one baserunner and struck out three over 3.2 innings.

While the Mets welcomed back one player, they lost another as Taylor officially landed on the IL after hurting himself running out a ground ball Monday night. Manager Carlos Mendoza said the team hopes the outfielder will only miss two to three weeks.

Jared Young also returns after missing time with a left meniscus tear suffered in April. Before the injury, Young had been productive in limited action, posting an .841 OPS in 23 plate appearances.

He and MJ Melendez were both set to start Tuesday against Cincinnati pitcher Chase Burns.

After spending one week in the majors, top prospect Nick Morabito was sent back to Triple-A so he could continue receiving everyday at-bats.

Although he went hitless in 11 at-bats with New York, the 23-year-old showed strong defensive ability in the outfield.

Meanwhile, Eric Wagaman earns another shot with the big league club after tearing up Triple-A pitching.

The 28-year-old infielder carried a scorching 1.043 OPS in Syracuse and hit .481 over his last eight games heading into his latest promotion.
