The Atlanta Braves are expected to be active ahead of the trade deadline as they look to strengthen their roster for another postseason run.
After opening the second half with a victory over the Texas Rangers, Atlanta remains focused on making moves that could boost its chances of contending for a World Series championship.
Despite their recent success, the Braves endured a difficult stretch in June that exposed weaknesses within the roster and sparked concerns about their playoff outlook.
One area that has drawn particular attention is the starting rotation, which has lacked consistency outside of ace Chris Sale.
According to HTHB’s Steven Teal, Atlanta’s once-reliable rotation has become a growing concern, leaving general manager Alex Anthopoulos with an important task at the trade deadline.
While Sale has continued to perform at a high level, the rest of the staff has struggled to provide dependable results on a regular basis.
As a result, the Braves have frequently been connected to Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, a two-time Cy Young Award winner who is widely regarded as one of the top pitchers potentially available this summer.

CBS Sports’ Mike Axisa recently predicted that Detroit could ultimately move Skubal despite the backlash such a decision might generate, adding that Atlanta appears to be one of the most logical landing spots if the Tigers decide to deal him.
The speculation intensified when MLB Network’s Greg Amsinger suggested the Braves’ championship hopes may hinge on acquiring the star left-hander.
Amsinger argued that Atlanta needs Skubal in order to make a serious World Series push, highlighting the impact an elite frontline starter could have on the club’s postseason outlook.
Still, some believe that assessment may be overstated. The Braves have overcome adversity before, including during their most recent World Series-winning season when they did not climb above .500 until August.

While adding a pitcher of Skubal’s caliber would undoubtedly strengthen the roster, baseball’s unpredictable postseason often proves that championship runs can emerge from unexpected circumstances.
With Skubal entering the final year of his $32 million contract, Atlanta’s interest is understandable, but completing such a blockbuster deal would likely require a significant price.
