The Philadelphia Phillies’ hopes of acquiring Minnesota Twins star Byron Buxton appear to have taken a major hit after a surprising update from the All-Star outfielder himself.
Philadelphia has been linked to Buxton as an ideal trade target thanks to its need for a right-handed bat and elite defensive center fielder, but the veteran made it clear he has no intention of leaving Minnesota.
During All-Star festivities, Buxton was asked whether he would consider waiving his full no-trade clause if the Phillies pursued him.
His response was direct and emphatic, saying he was “not going anywhere,” effectively shutting down speculation that a blockbuster deal with Philadelphia could materialize before the Aug. 3 trade deadline.
The update aligns with the Twins’ stance on their franchise cornerstone. Earlier this season, Twins general manager Jeremy Zoll publicly stated that the organization has no plans to trade Buxton and is not exploring any such discussions.
Buxton, who remains under contract through 2028 with full no-trade protection, has repeatedly expressed his desire to spend his entire career in Minnesota.
While the Phillies are expected to remain aggressive in their search for an impact outfielder before the deadline, Buxton now appears to be off the board.
Philadelphia will likely shift its attention to other available bats as it looks to strengthen its lineup for a postseason push, while the Twins continue to build around one of the American League’s premier two-way stars.
