Three years removed from their World Series triumph, the Texas Rangers find themselves dealing with significant challenges.
The 2026 season has fallen short of expectations, and despite having a legitimate opportunity to reach the postseason in a relatively weak AL West, Texas currently sits outside the playoff picture.
While the 2026 campaign may be nearing its end for the Rangers, there is still plenty of room for the organization to improve heading into 2027 and beyond.
Strengthening the infield—particularly by adding a productive left-handed bat—could make a significant difference.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter believes the Rangers could address that need during the upcoming offseason by pursuing New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr.

“Finding a clean landing spot for Jazz Chisholm Jr. is not easy, but he would give the Rangers the boost in athleticism and left-handed pop they are lacking, albeit at a premium price,” Reuter wrote.
A potential Chisholm signing would give Texas an intriguing combination of speed and power. The 28-year-old is already a two-time All-Star and has the ability to hit 30 or more home runs while also stealing 40-plus bases.
Chisholm has stolen 40 bases and hit 19 home runs this season. In 2025, he posted an even stronger power-speed combination, hitting 31 home runs while stealing 31 bases.
However, there is considerable risk attached to such a move. Chisholm has been inconsistent at the plate, recording a .715 OPS this season, which is below average. That represents a significant drop from his .813 OPS in 2025.
That inconsistency creates the biggest question for the Rangers—or any team considering signing him: Which version of Jazz Chisholm Jr. will they be getting?
If Texas gets the 2025 version of Chisholm, a major contract could prove to be worthwhile.
But if he continues to perform closer to his 2026 level, committing significant money to him could quickly become a costly mistake.
Even with those concerns, Chisholm’s combination of athleticism, power and base-stealing ability makes him an appealing potential addition for the Rangers.
He could address an important weakness in their lineup, but bringing him aboard would undoubtedly come with substantial financial and performance-related risk.
