Since taking over as Kansas State’s new head coach, Casey Alexander is already making an impact, while his former program is dealing with roster instability caused by the transfer portal. On Tuesday, the Wildcats’ potential recruiting pool expanded once again as another former Belmont standout officially entered the portal.
Drew Scharnowski became the second Belmont player to depart following Alexander’s move, joining Tyler Lundblade in seeking a new opportunity. Like his former teammate, Scharnowski was among the Missouri Valley Conference’s top offensive contributors.
The 6-foot-9 redshirt sophomore earned first-team All-MVC honors in 2026 and finished third on the Bruins in scoring, while also averaging six rebounds per game.
During conference play, he reached double figures in scoring 12 times, including a streak of five consecutive games between Dec. 13 and Jan. 1. His season-best performance came when he dropped 19 points in back-to-back matchups against Murray State and Drake.

Scharnowski is now the second starter to leave Belmont after being recruited by Alexander, following Lundblade’s departure.
Belmont wrapped up the season as Missouri Valley Conference regular-season champions but fell short of an NCAA tournament appearance after a quarterfinal loss to the Bulldogs.
