Men’s Basketball: Kansas State Standout Takes Bold Step, Enters Transfer Portal to Pursue New Opportunities and Continue His College Career Elsewhere

With the 2025–26 season wrapped, TCU men’s basketball is already turning its attention to shaping next year’s roster. That lineup won’t include redshirt sophomore guard RJ Jones, a former Kansas State transfer, who is reportedly re-entering the transfer portal after two seasons with the Horned Frogs.

A former four-star recruit, Jones redshirted last season and saw limited action this year, averaging 2.6 points on 8-of-20 shooting across nine games. He still has two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-2 guard from Denton, Texas, who starred at Wasatch Academy before committing to Kansas State, logged the most court time of his career there, appearing in 28 games and averaging 2.4 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 9.0 minutes per contest.

Jones committed to TCU in May 2024 and is the first player from the 2025–26 roster to enter the portal. His exit could open opportunities for players like Kayden “Bugg” Edwards or JUCO signee Trent Lincoln, a 2027 four-star recruit, to step into bigger roles next season.
