Kansas State Wildcats basketball transfer guard Abdi Bashir will not be staying within the Sunflower Showdown rivalry, as he has chosen to continue his college career elsewhere after entering the transfer portal.
The 6-foot-7 junior guard, who averaged 13.2 points per game last season while shooting an impressive 44.4% from three-point range, initially drew interest from multiple major programs, including the Kansas Jayhawks basketball, where coach Bill Self even scheduled a Zoom meeting to evaluate a possible transfer.
Although Kansas saw Bashir as a potential outside shooting boost despite defensive concerns, the move ultimately did not materialize, leaving the sharpshooter to explore other opportunities in the portal.
Bashir also attracted attention from programs like St. John’s Red Storm basketball, Ohio State Buckeyes basketball, and NC State Wolfpack basketball, before eventually committing to LSU Tigers basketball.

A native of Omaha, Bashir began his college career at Monmouth before transferring to Kansas State, where he showed strong scoring ability across 18 games, averaging 13.2 points along with 2.3 assists and 2.2 rebounds while knocking down 67 total three-pointers before a broken foot cut his season short.
His departure adds another notable name to Kansas State’s busy transfer portal cycle, as both incoming and outgoing movement continues to reshape the roster heading into the next season.
