Although Chicago could pursue help for its lineup or bullpen, the starting rotation remains the team’s most pressing need. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently identified Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara as the ideal trade target for the White Sox.
Alcantara Viewed as Ideal Fit
Miller suggested that adding Alcantara would give Chicago a proven frontline starter capable of anchoring the rotation down the stretch. Beyond this season, the right-hander also offers long-term value, as he remains under team control through 2027 via a club option.
That added control makes Alcantara especially appealing for a White Sox team seeking impact talent beyond a short-term rental.
Former Cy Young Winner Producing Again
The 30-year-old has rebounded with a strong 2026 campaign, posting a 3.89 ERA, a 10-5 record, and 107 strikeouts across a league-leading 136.2 innings in 21 starts.
His durability and track record as a former Cy Young Award winner make him one of the most attractive starting pitchers potentially available on the market.
Trade Could Come at a High Cost
Acquiring Alcantara would likely require a significant prospect package, but Chicago may view the investment as worthwhile given its need for rotation help and its opportunity to contend for an AL Central title.
If available, the veteran right-hander could provide the White Sox with the type of postseason-caliber starter they currently lack.
