Ronald Acuña Jr. appears to be finding his rhythm at an ideal point in the season for the Atlanta Braves. The 28-year-old superstar has been on a tear since September began, recording 10 hits in 22 plate appearances through his first five games of the month, including three home runs and nine RBIs.
Acuña has been especially impactful during Atlanta’s current series against the Philadelphia Phillies, launching two of those home runs against the division rival.
With the Braves in strong position to capture the NL East unless they suffer a significant late-season collapse, Acuña’s recent surge could provide a major boost as the team prepares for the postseason.
However, his impressive September comes amid growing questions about his long-term future in Atlanta. Acuña has dealt with several injuries this season, including multiple trips to the 10-day injured list because of a left hamstring strain.
His recurring lower-body problems have continued to raise concerns about his ability to remain healthy over a full season.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, those injury concerns could influence how the Braves approach Acuña’s future. Atlanta has two additional club options remaining on his contract, and the team is widely expected to exercise them because of his enormous talent and the relatively affordable cost of those seasons.
Acuña could reportedly prefer to secure a long-term extension beyond those options, but the Braves may not share that interest. Atlanta appears willing to let his current contract run its course before potentially allowing him to reach unrestricted free agency.

That possibility would be a tough one for Braves fans to accept given Acuña’s accomplishments in Atlanta. He has already won Rookie of the Year and MVP honors, earned five All-Star selections and captured three Silver Slugger Awards.

Still, the Braves’ cautious approach is understandable, particularly after Austin Riley’s contract situation has become complicated by injuries and an inconsistent season.
For now, Acuña’s immediate focus is helping Atlanta make a deep postseason run, but his recent surge has also brought renewed attention to one major question: how long will the face of the Braves franchise remain in Atlanta?
