Recruiting in college football never slows down, and Shane Beamer continues to shape South Carolina Gamecocks’ 2027 class.
The group now includes six commits, with recent additions like wide receiver DJ Huggins and tight end Judah Lancaster, but the staff is aggressively pursuing five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson.
Dobson, a standout from Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina, has long been on South Carolina’s radar, with the program offering him as early as May 2024.
While he remains uncommitted and has an official visit to Columbia scheduled for June 19, recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong has logged a prediction favoring Texas A&M Aggies as his eventual destination.

The elite defensive back—ranked among the very best nationally in the 2027 class—also has an official visit lined up with Texas A&M on June 5, two weeks before his South Carolina trip.
He’s widely regarded as one of North Carolina’s top prospects and holds offers from powerhouse programs like Alabama, LSU, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, and Notre Dame.
While nothing is finalized, losing out on Dobson would be a significant setback for South Carolina’s 2027 class, which currently ranks outside the top 40 nationally and includes just one defensive back, safety Jernard Albright.
The Gamecocks already saw cornerback Aamaury Fountain choose Florida recently, making Dobson an even bigger priority.
With Texas A&M getting the earlier visit, the timing could work against South Carolina—but there’s still time for Beamer and his staff to change the narrative before Dobson makes his decision.
