Missouri took a hit to its roster for next season on Sunday night as forward Jevon Porter entered the transfer portal.
However, his situation isn’t straightforward. According to League Ready’s Sam Kayser, the 6-foot-11 big man has also filed for a waiver in hopes of gaining eligibility for next season.
Porter played in only 12 games for the Tigers this year, averaging 6.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. His college journey has already been eventful, with previous stops at Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine. To continue his career at a fourth program, though, he’ll need approval for an extra year through a medical redshirt.
The Columbia native, who returned home to play for Mizzou, doesn’t automatically qualify for that waiver. He appeared in 36.3% of the team’s games (12 of 33), slightly above the 30% threshold required for automatic medical redshirt eligibility.

A leg injury suffered in practice before the matchup with Illinois forced Porter to miss all SEC play and that game against the Fighting Illini.

He now becomes the second Missouri player seeking an additional year via waiver, joining forward Jacob Crews in the transfer portal.
Porter initially transferred to Mizzou for his senior season after three years on the West Coast, and he comes from a well-known Missouri basketball family, with brothers Michael Porter Jr. and Jontay Porter both having played for the Tigers.
Although Missouri made the NCAA Tournament this past season, the program is aiming for a deeper run next time around as it looks ahead to March.
