Portal Season Strikes Again-Men’s Basket Ball: Tennessee Loses Another Key Frontcourt Piece to Missouri Tigers as SEC Transfer Portal Chaos Continues to Reshape Rosters Across the Conference—-Tennessee’s loss is Mizzou’s gain.

The Tennessee Volunteers have continued to see roster turnover through the transfer portal this week, with another departure finding a new destination on Monday night.

According to On3 Sports’ Joe Tipton, forward Jaylen Carey is transferring to the Missouri Tigers for the upcoming season.

Carey had an inconsistent season with Tennessee after transferring in from Vanderbilt the year prior, averaging 7.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Despite forming a physical frontcourt duo with DeWayne Brown II that gave Tennessee a tough interior presence—described by Auburn head coach Steven Pearl as a pair of “defensive ends”—Carey ultimately moved on after one season in Knoxville.

Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes even noted this year that Carey was the player he pushed the hardest.

His departure comes as little surprise given the Vols’ ongoing roster changes, though his new landing spot is notable. Missouri reached the NCAA Tournament this season and also picked up a regular-season win over Tennessee.

Still, Carey’s move marks his fourth program, highlighting how active the transfer market remains in college basketball driven largely by NIL opportunities.
